Frank Ivy Releases New Dreamy, Pop-Haze EP 'Room 1'

Frank Ivy is a Bay Area songwriter & producer who has released his new haze-pop EP Room 1. If you like Tame Impala then you may love this guy because each song is a getaway into waves of synths and vocal layers. The 3-track project is fun, dreamy, and whimsical that is ultimately the perfect end-of-summer project, leaving traces of sunshine and nostalgia in your head. The lead single “Deja Vu”, has a beautiful melody and does a wonderful job piecing together various elements of sonics to put together a really enchanting record. The song also has an accompanying music video that you can watch here. The other two songs are also distinct, “KIIMH” does a wonderful job being a light-hearted, 80s-sounding indie-pop track, utilizing warped voices and heavy beats, while “Places I’ve Never Been” is a song that takes you on a long walk or daydream with the smooth tunes and hypnotic tones. The entirety of the EP was co-produced & co-written by NorCal powerhouse The Canvas Group, comprised of Rob Marshall and Nic Garcia.

Ivy’s writing process typically starts with building an instrumental, then a melody, and then the lyrics, because for him the music inspires the direction of the narrative. For “Deja Vu”, the artists says “the approach here comes from the notion that History repeats itself, evoking a sense of Deja Vu. The idea that we can learn from the past seems to be lost at times, yet we see it played out over and over again.”

Ivy has been involved with music for over 15 years now, but as of 2018 he decided that he would primarily focus on the art form as his full-time job. His sound has transformed and evolved in numerous ways from indie-pop, to pop, to psych-pop, R&B, and Hip-hop which ultimately led to him finally figuring out the direction he wanted to pursue, somewhere intertwined with all of those genres.

In the last 2 years, Ivy has released 10 singles, along with 3 instrumental albums, and he did so completely independent of a label. In addition, he self-taught himself music marketing and eventually was able to grow an organic fan-base. Room 1 is the first piece of what will be an entire album titled, The Ivy Motel. The concept is that each room consists of 3 singles designed to create a specific vibe for that space, and his goal with this is that listeners will then be able to construct their own “Ivy Motel” album by making playlists of their favorites tracks from the project, thus building their own, customized room.

We’re looking forward to booking ourselves a spot in each installation of this ongoing project and are excited for what’s to come for this emerging artist.
