"Are you a real 5SOS fan?" Michael asked the crowd again, and in response the crowd roared into a crashing wave of adoring shrieks.

On August 13th, the Australian/New South Wales band 5 Seconds of Summer performed at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway and truly gave the audience a night to never forget. They had performed the night before, but Luke Hemmings, the lead singer of the group, claimed that this second night already was better than the first. I was speechless to find how much love there was in that venue for the boy band, but also completely understood as a 5SOS fan myself. The memories built around this band that has been in this industry for 15 years is truly potent. People shared with me their stories of how they came to love the band and even one duo explained how they met through a 5SOS show years ago and how this concert was their reunion after months of not seeing each other, and always will be.

The magnetic power of their pop rock ballads swept away our hearts that night as everyone sang along to each lyric, completely in unison and memorized. The melodies harmonized together by the quartet Hemmings, Callum Hood, Michael Clifford, and Ashton Irwin echoed through the space with such force. Each so talented across the board. They performed old tracks and new ones, and seamlessly carried us through their discography. Their energy on stage and the colorful lights paired with their movements electrocuted the atmosphere as we went through phases of nostalgia in a span of 2 hours.

Additionally, as the free-spirted group that they are, the band projected hysterical, cinematic skits of themselves in various settings such as an ER room and a spa, and also incorporated engaging activities for the fans to take part in such as throwing an inflatable die onto the stage to pick the next song to perform and a competition in loudness against Irwin's drumming prowess. The night was light-hearted and euphoric, and beautiful way to end the last month of the summer, but a great way for them to begin their world tour. A show absolutely worth the visit!
