[Photo Story]: half•alive Takes the Fonda Theatre, Los Angeles For the Second Time!

I hold my life out in front of me, dreams of who I want to be
I'm seeing every empty page
I find that everything I am is everything I should be
I don't need to run away

I had a chance to see the American indie-rock/alternative band half•alive who is making all kinds of waves as the trio took the stage a second time at the Fonda Theatre. Though this was their second round at the venue, the first being sold out, they still had managed to pack the house with a crowd that was ecstatic to see them live. The merchandise looked amazing and the energy in the room was sky high!

When the guys finally emerged from the dark with, a spotlight lit the lead singer’s his pastel pink hair. The crowd went wild and after that the rest was history. Everyone sang along to band favorites like “Runaway” “still feel.” and more.

Admittedly, the audio and sound had been a bit off at the venue which was unfortunate, however, the performance itself, the dancing and the lighting, was unforgettable. The band mates even taught the crowd a quick move which got everyone laughing. I have never ever really seen a “rock band” include dancers like that through the entirety of the production! I saw BANKS recently do that, but her music definitely fits the mold. However, half•alive proved to me that really any kind of music can incorporate this interpretive dance in its show, and it develops pretty tremendously.

Here are photos I captured from the show that night!

A little more about the band, they were born and raised in Long Beach, CA, and pursued this project not too long ago in 2016. The band consists of Josh Taylor (lead singer), Brett Kramer (drummer), and J Taylor Johnson (bassist). They released their debut EP 3 in 2017, and debut studio album Now, Not Yet, this past summer of 2019. Their hit single “still feel.” earned them spots on television such as Good Morning America and at various major music festivals. Their music can’t really be pinned to one type as it transcends and mixes with a variety of tunes: pop, indie rock, electronic, funk, soul and R&B. Their style and aesthetic overall is very reminiscent of the 60s and 70s, while their music embodies a modern twist. They are now on their headlining tour, and continue to create new music—so stay tuned!
