Sebastian Ortiz Brings Us a Refreshing Mix of 50s & Indie Rock Sounds with "Baby X4"

Oh Baby, Baby, Baby, Baby

A retreat back to a time of British indie rock bands and jazzy tunes, Sebastian Ortiz is a young artist with a mature voice and a heart set on making this a full-time career.

His music is smooth and well-delivered, and it’s refreshing to find an artist that isn’t using insane amounts of production to put together the song. It’s simple, it’s sweet, and it still has you grooving which is all we could really ask for. It’s honestly a song that feels like I’m disconnecting from the internet in a world and time where thats all we do to stay in the loop with things.

He recently released his single “Baby X4”, which is this 50s-esque ballad that reminds me of the glamour and groove of Elvis and the Grease-era while also sticking to the rawness of down-tempo indie rock music. He even manages to give a tinge of surf rock to the tune making it a chill, uplifting, and carefree song during these strange times in the world. (You can hear the song above.)

With a long road ahead of him, Sebastian will definitely grow into a potential that I think is there.

Ortiz explains how “Baby X4” was written on an October Saturday morning with a melody that popped up in his mind. He drew from his influences of REM, grabbed his ukulele and worked out the melody, chords, and lyrics. With encouragement from his friends and roommates, “Baby X4” was recorded on January 4th at Hackensack, NJ’s UMPC Studios and was mixed by Anthony Malary.

In addition to creating his own music, Sebastian is leading the formation of the Saturday Sounds of Boston Concert Series, which will be a five part online concert series running on Saturdays, from April 18th to May 16th (which is also his 21st birthday—woo!).

AND, coming up this Thursday, Ortiz will be releasing his follow up single “You Can Be Anything You Want”, so be sure to tune in that day and give it a listen.

A little bit about this artist: Ortiz is a 20 year old business student, but his passion for music comes first, and he’s been writing since sixth grade. He still recalls a word of advice his cousin offered to him then, “The Beatles didn’t become the Beatles by playing other people’s songs”. As a result, the past two years have been Ortiz dedicating his time and himself to his craft, writing songs every day, good or bad. We’re excited for this journey he is on, and we look forward to future releases to come.

Be sure to follow him on instagram, and check out his music on his official site and Spotify.
